Carbon accounting your finance team actually runs — from your invoices
SpendToScope connects to Xero or QuickBooks, applies DEFRA 2024 factors at line-item level, and produces reports your finance team can stand behind — for tenders, customer requests and voluntary disclosure.
SpendToScope in action
Real UI — built around invoice-level accuracy, scope visibility, and finance-ready reporting.

Report, reduce, and offset
Tender-ready and CSRD-ready exports plus an integrated carbon credits marketplace — close the loop from measurement to action.

Every invoice mapped to the right DEFRA category — automatically
ERP account codes like “Account 445” and vague descriptions like “Professional Fees” don't contain enough for keyword matching alone. When pattern matching draws a blank, SpendToScope passes the supplier name and invoice description to Claude AI — which selects the correct DEFRA 2024 spend category from the authoritative list of 21 categories.
- Three-stage pipeline: keyword patterns → Claude AI → General Services fallback
- Only supplier name and description sent to AI — never amounts, dates or bank details
- AI output validated against 21 DEFRA 2024 categories before use
- Per-supplier caching — AI is called once, not on every import
- Your data is never used to train AI models

Built for finance teams managing carbon reporting
SpendToScope replaces the annual ESG consultant engagement with software that runs continuously alongside your ERP.
Guide, checklist, footprint calculator and free Excel planner for UK public sector tenders.
How we compare
Most carbon tools are built for ESG consultants with big budgets. SpendToScope is built for Finance Directors who need invoice-level accuracy, not spend estimates.
Included for existing Sage Accounting subscribers — but not available to Sage X3 or Business Central users, and limited to spend-based estimates.
The gold standard for Fortune 500 ESG teams — but overkill for mid-market finance, with opaque pricing and no native ERP connectors.
Accessible carbon accounting via bank feed imports, but no invoice granularity, no UK DEFRA specificity, and no ERP integration.

How does SpendToScope calculate my carbon footprint?
SpendToScope connects to your Xero or QuickBooks account and pulls every invoice. Each line item is matched to one of 104 DEFRA 2024 emission factors using keyword patterns and, where needed, Claude AI. Scope 1, 2 and all relevant Scope 3 categories are calculated automatically — no spreadsheets, no manual mapping.
Which ERP systems do you support?
Xero and QuickBooks Online are natively supported on all plans. CSV and API upload are available on all plans too. Sage X3 is included on the Professional plan as a native connector. All other ERP connectors (Business Central, NetSuite, SAP) are available on Enterprise.
How often are DEFRA emission factors updated?
DEFRA publishes updated emission factors every July. SpendToScope updates its factor library every year via Climatiq — your historical data is recalculated automatically so you're always comparing like-for-like.
Do I need this if my company isn't legally required to report?
Most mid-market businesses use SpendToScope not because they must, but because enterprise customers and public sector procurement now ask for Scope 3 data. A single request for a supplier carbon questionnaire or a £500K tender requiring a Carbon Reduction Plan (PPN 006) more than covers the annual cost.
Can I try SpendToScope for free?
Yes. All plans include a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. You can connect your Xero or QuickBooks account and see your real carbon footprint within minutes of signing up.
What's the difference between invoice-level and spend-based carbon accounting?
Spend-based tools estimate your carbon by multiplying total spend with a supplier by an average emission factor. Invoice-level tools like SpendToScope apply emission factors to individual line items — giving dramatically higher accuracy, especially for multi-category suppliers like Amazon or Office Depot.
Can SpendToScope produce a Carbon Reduction Plan for a UK public sector tender?
Yes. SpendToScope calculates your Scope 1, 2 and 3 footprint and produces a PPN 006-aligned Carbon Reduction Plan report — ready to attach to your tender submission. A free PPN 006 template is available on SpendToScope.com/ppn-006-carbon-reduction-plan-template.
